This is where the picture of Sheryl Crow comes into play. A radio darling, Sheryll also cemented her legacy and name in the world of pop music. Anything that had her name on it was a true guarantee for song directors to endorse. Recently, Kid Rock hit the headlines not because of a new hit song, but for refusing to shut down his bar in Nashville despite the order of the city mayor amidst the pandemic of Covid Kid Rock, Martina McBride.

A video compiled by The Boot's partner site, Taste of Country , explains that when "Picture" starting going for adds, Rock wasn't exactly the darling of the radio industry. For one thing, "Picture" was the fourth in a lackluster line of singles off of Cocky , none of which had done particularly well on the charts. More importantly, Rock had a bad track record with radio-friendly language.
Rock's affinity for the F-word and controversial subject matter spanned the tracklists of all of his previous albums, which included songs such as "B--ls in Your Mouth," "F--k Off" and "F--k That. Crow's record label opposed her collaboration with Rock, and so they blocked him from releasing the version of "Picture" that featured Crow as a single.
Kid Rock had also received pushback on the song, which some involved in his career thought would ruin his outlaw bad-boy image. He ended up enlisting edgy country artist Allison Moorer for an alternate version of the track that stretched out a bit longer and included not only a more genuinely country vocal performance, but also a different guitar solo. That version was released to radio, but stations across the country began playing the album version with Crow without permission, and Crow appeared alongside Kid Rock in the official video for the song on a version of "Picture" that was a more mainstream blend of country and rock elements.
